Bridges to the PhD
Program Mission
The UM Social Work/Nursing Bridges to the Doctoral Program is a collaboration between the University of Michigan and California State University, LA Schools of Social Work and Nursing. The mission of the program is to facilitate the transition of underrepresented students to PhD programs that prepare them for careers as behavioral and social scientists conducting health disparities research.
"This is a great program. I feel privileged to have been a part of a program that allowed me to prepare for admission into my current PhD program."
Markus Whitehead, Bridges Alumni,
Currently enrolled in the PhD program in social work at Wayne State University
"The Bridges Program was an amazing opportunity and experience that opened my eyes to the possibility of a career in social welfare research. It provided me with resources and the skills to not only be accepted into a top university but put me on a path to excel in my doctoral program. I am forever thankful for the continued support of my mentors and colleagues years after my participation in the program."
Lia Marshall, Bridges Alumni,
Currently enrolled in the PhD program in social welfare at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs
